Left Kansas with the Burgundy Street Singers (seven years with them), then commercials, Vegas and similar venues as “Jan and Jill.”  Jill and I both married our Michaels and I toured the West playing country music for two years.  Came back  to LA, and after about a 2 minute interval between marriages, married Gordon.  Played piano and sang at hotels around LA and gave concerts of my original music.  My present incarnation is as a music teacher, both piano and voice, with about 30 students a week.  I will be President of the South Bay Branch of the Music Teacher’s Association this year. I also perform in a duo with another teacher, who is a classical violinist; we do classsical and Broadway.   I am very busy, but thrive on a fast pace, and my fibromyalgia has miraculously abated, thank God.

Left Kansas in 1975, with a degree from K-State.  Moved to New Orleans, graduated from  Tulane Law School, and practiced law there until 1988.  Then to a small town near the coast of North Carolina, where I ran a national organization of women lawyers from home, had a weekly newspaper column on history, led tours around the town, and kept busy volunteering.  Now live near the Blue Ridge mountains, enjoying all the benefits of a college town, and work at Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic, a charitable organization with studios around the country.  I oversee about 115 volunteers a week who come in to read and record textbooks, which are then put on CDs and distributed to those who cannot use printed material.

We purchased the Belleville Cable TV company in 1970, added six more companies before selling it all in 2001.  Always active with my children: school, scouting, up through the After Prom party for the high school.  Volunteer work with the library, the picture-lady program to introduce art work, Free University, Chamber of Commerce, especially with Christmas lights and programs.  From that volunteer work, I built  a catering business in Belleville, Manhattan, JC and Concordia, and then became a wedding consultant.  Started Kansas Baskets to promote Kansas products approved by the Department of Agriculture, first for Bloomingdales, then to most of the US and several foreign countries. . . could have become a very good business, but kept me too busy.   I am a breast cancer survivor, and have done the Avon Breast Cancer Three Day Walk (20 miles each day; didn’t do the whole 60, but a very good experience)  and  raised money for the Susan Korman Breast Cancer Foundation.  In Colorado, we volunteer at Harmony Horseworks, a shelter for horses that are abused, neglected or no longer wanted, and made available for adoption.  I enjoy my grandkids, reading and travel . . . one day I’d like to see Egypt.

Married in 1969, and during my husband’s Army years, we traveled to Kentucky, Louisiana,  Germany, Korea, with postings back in Kansas in between, then to Alabama and retirement after 21 years in the service.  Decided to move to Florida to be closer to my mom and Dad; 19 years later, and tired of the hurricanes, we moved to Tennessee, a decision made easier by the fact that our only daughter and her family are there.  My work experience has been varied, but mostly in the clerical and administrative areas, both as a supervisor and a worker bee:  electronic scanning, filing and a lot of governmental work; would love to get back to that, but we are away from the military bases and those positions are pretty slim.  I am currently working as a data control technician, basically data entry and research. Our hobby is cars, namely Camaros; we have a 1971 Camaro that we have restored and take to car shows all over the place . . . and a garage full of trophies from national and local shows.

I am the executive directory of a 10-county private non-profit that works with senior citizens and low-income families; held the position for more than 23 years.  My (second) husband and I work a lot in our yard, and we have 31 head of cattle which we enjoy messing with. We spend almost every winter weekend at our deer lease, using our camera more than a gun!  I am still an avid reader, and those winter week-ends are when I catch up with novels I have put aside.  Travel a lot on my job, so not much spare time.  We have also started “cruising” and hope to do a more of that.

Spouse:  Sherwood Gersch, married 20 years. He owns a construction company.

Children:  Jodi Anne, a nurse specializing in wound care. She and her husband have recently moved to Odessa Texas; they have a son Bradley, 14, in the 8th grade, who has just discovered girls.  My son, Lucas, is co-owner of Gersch Construction, living in Winchester, Texas with his wife; they will probably relocate to the western part of the US., where Lucas hopes to continue his education in Sports Medicine.

Left Kansas in 1968 to travel to my birthplace in Germany, and lived and traveled throughout Europe until the fall of 1970, when I came back to JC and got a job at Gibson’s, in the automotive department. . . where I worked for Carl Bierbaum.  Carl and I were married in 1971.  After six years in Bentonville AR, we returned to Junction City, where we restored houses, office and apartment buildings.  We also helped set up the Geary County Historical Society, and I was the first curator of the Society museum.  I have traveled all over the world, had interesting jobs, and I feel very lucky to have been a home maker most of my life! Now we are happy to spend as much time as possible with our kids and grandkids.

Spouse:  Carl Bierbaum

Children:  Carl William, born in 1972, now married with two children, born in 2003 and 2004.  Diana Michelle, born in 1977, married with one child, Blake, born in July 2006.  We are fortunate to have both our children living in Florida.

I am an executive with a large privately owned resort wear manufacturing company, and have lived in Miami for 25+ years.  I have been married for eight years, to a man who treats me like a princess!  My husband and I both enjoy the theatre, skiing (he’s a chiropractor, so that’s a blessing), tennis (when it is not smoldering hot in Miami) and travel. . . . one  of my passions is traveling to Europe and Israel. Now we are exploring the good ‘ol USA, including my favorite spot,  New York City, especially its museums.  My husband was a pilot in the Air Force and we have recently purchased a small airplane for him to indulge his flying passion.  I am still getting up the nerve to take flying lessons, but old age makes us do stupid things, so I may gear myself up to do it soon!   After my father’s death in 1992, I brought my mother down to live here in 1994, and am now dealing with her stage one Alzheimer’s.  Junction City was a wonderful town which holds great memories for me; it was a great place to grow up in, at that time we were growing up.  I hope I will be able to make it to the next reunion . . . it would be nice to see some of the people who made life in school impossible for some and those whose lives at school were made impossible by others.

After a year at K-State, I was ‘invited’ (read drafted)  into the Army, and recognizing it as a one way ticket to Viet Nam, I enlisted in the Air Force, which sent me to  . . . Da Nang Viet Nam. After two tours, I got to Homestead AFB, FL and joined an elite Air Force flying unit as an Airborne Communications Specialist qualified as a linguist (Spanish, Hebrew and Russian).  I remained in the service of our great nation for 20 years, with duty at the Bearing Sea, SE Asia, Japan, Central and South America and around the US, experiences that were and still will continue to be extremely challenging.  Thank the good Lord for our service personnel and the contributions that they and their families make on a daily basis.  Upon retirement, I returned to Deltona FL, worked in the college arena, security with the Walt Disney dynasty, then to Coca Cola Company in Orlando.  Personal and medical problems required me to retire, and now I feed the fish and ducks in my yard, play around with my automotive hobbies and take on other projects.

Living life . . . in Manhattan for the past 30 years, working for the government for 33 years, now with the Department of Agriculture.    We like to bike, and garden, I lift weights every morning to keep those bones strong, and I love to go for power walks.   My husband is still teaching and coaching at the High School, and both of us are looking forward to retiring, we just don’t know what we want to do when we grow up! We want to leave Manhattan, maybe have a place in KC and one in Arizona or the Carolinas.  Life’s been good to us.

Spouse:  Greg

Children:  Two children, both in the Kansas City area.  Our son, Josh,  is married and has a child, Jax Marn, who will have a brother or sister this fall!  Our daughter is single and works in outside sales.  Great kids who have turned into wonderful adults!

Left Kansas for anonymity.  Found myself in academia.  Haunted by latent urban mythology, retreated to Wyoming for 28 years of retribution, reductionism and redundancy.  To my surprise, no one cared.  BS, MA, JD, ABD-Ph.D later, find myself in western Arizona by way of Santa Fe, having traded in the old 60’s freak flag for Save Tibet bumper sticker.  Still in academia, the people’s version.  Wiser now: no surprise that no one cares [about the bumper sticker]. The bigger surprise is that I care. Spouse (who chose not to change his name), son, dog, cat, books, music, house, car, computer. [See Diana at www.baringwitness.org, Santa Fe].

To DC  from Minnesota in June 1995, as an independent government contractor.  After a couple of years, I joined Deloitte & Touche in their Audit and IT Consulting service lines, yet was never satisfied working in a corporate/structured environment.  Resurrected my old consulting firm, now providing IT Security Program Support services to several Federal agencies with a staff that ranges between 15-25 (independent contractors), depending on the workload.  Although I am a CPA, I find that I have lost my appetite for crunching numbers.  Last year I thought about retiring, but in the meantime, I really like what I do and I continue to show up every day.

Thanks to the classmates in Junction City who masterminded a great Class Reunion. . . . especially Steve Hornbaker, Marcia Field, and Susan Williams for all their hard work.

“You haven’t changed. ”

But I am not the same woman.

I am not the same man.

It is not the same world, but yet it is.

The years have taken their toll,

On our faces and in our hearts.

Grateful to reunite with those we have missed for years.

Regret that so many were absent.

Naming and remembering those who did not come

Those who can never come again.

Remembering each other’s families, who watched after us all.

Reaching out -- on the dance floor, at first glance, as we visit,

To cross the time and space that has separated us.

Sharing friendships with husbands and wives and children

Who never knew the young that we were --

Sharing sadness -- sharing joys

Sympathy as we learn of the losses over the years.

Wishing we could remember some things better

Wishing the pain of remembering some things was less,

Remembering a bit differently after the span of time.

Despite all, for a moment

We yearn for that time when we were young together.

But only for a moment.

Thankful to those who made special efforts  --

Extended generous hospitality, worked hard to bring us together.

Promising to meet again.

Planning for the future.

Lord, grant us a safe journey through the next years . . .

Until we meet once more.

                                    -- Unknown.

Thanks to the classmates in Junction City who masterminded a great Class Reunion. . . . especially Steven Hornbaker, Marcia Field, and Susan Williams for all their hard work.
